Pa’la Navidad & Beyond
During the holiday season, Parranderos (Puerto Ricans who sometimes dressed as traditional countryside farmers known as Jíbaros), fill the streets with caroling. Often times caroling includes Jíbaro dance music, influenced by Spanish, African, and Taino cultures (La Plena y El Seis) food, & coquito.
At each house Parranderos would celebrate, while inviting every home to join the festivities. Inherently, growing the party throughout the evening. This tradition continues to celebrated by Puerto Ricans living in the States. Hola Coquito keeps the party going year ’round… you coming or nah?!

Canela Una is a visionary, an advocate, and a proud 3-time HBCU grad. Born in Brooklyn, she was raised by her Abuelita who instilled the traditions she learned as an adolescent in Patillas, Puerto Rico.
During the HBCU homecoming season, Una often brings a bottle to share with her HBCU family. It has become an annual, anticipated tradition.
And now she’s making it available for all to enjoy year-round!
